Your Three People

Every successful person will tell you they did not do it alone. Along their journey, they have had people who believed in them, as well as people who did not; people who told them they could do anything they set their mind to, and others who told them they would never be able to do it.

Along the way, there were motivators and detractors, and each of those people had an impact.

However, one element of success is that you need certain people on your journey. They include people who act as a cheerleader, hold you accountable, and offer solution oriented ideas.

It’s one thing to master focus, self-motivation,and setting goals in order to make sure you succeed. It’s quite another to surround yourself with people who want you to succeed, as well.

I always like to say, as you are working towards success, find three people who really have your back.

Here are the three people every successful person must have in his or her life.

Your cheerleader.
Everyone has days when they are just feeling down. You are human, so don’t get too caught up in that being a problem. It’s not. However, sometimes we need to be “on” to get things done, even if you aren’t feeling it. That is where your cheerleader comes in. This person is the one you can reach out to and get a boost when you need one. The cheerleader is often a motivator. This person can remind you why you are doing what you’re doing. They remind you that you are capable, you are a mover and shaker, or that someone else is counting on you. Whether it’s a simple ‘pick me up’ moment, or it’s five minutes before you take the stage in front of 1,000 people to inspire them, your cheerleader is the voice that will always get you into a space where you can thrive again.

Your accountability person.
This is someone who can see through all of your BS, and help you get to the point where you can move forward. This person really kicks your butt...in a good way. This is the person who believes in you, but speaks the truth. They help you to get past what is holding you back and help you get back to taking action. They remind you of what you’ve done before, what your goals are, and what you said you were going to do. They remind you of your why.

Your clarity person.
We all have times when our brains are so full of clutter that we need help clearing the way. When we get stuck, this person always seems to be able to listen to the situation, get rid of all the stuff that does not matter, and help you get past it. They're the problem solver. They're the solution oriented friend that will say, ‘Let's figure this out right now.’ They're solution driven, help you get unstuck, and help you move forward in a positive direction. If you're feeling overwhelmed, this is the person who will help you prioritize and focus on one situation at a time.

On my success journey over the past 25 years, I have always had people filling these roles. Throughout the years, these people have changed. You will identify who these people are through the experiences you have had with them. You instinctively go to the one you need depending on your situation.

Be mindful that these traits might be found in one person. However, be careful about having the expectation that one person can meet all of these needs. The more people you have around you, the more you’ll benefit from the different perspectives.

I encourage you to identify your three people. When people do this, they feel supported, they feel understood, and they feel motivated to keep moving forward. When you haven’t identified these people, you will have a tendency to seek out the wrong people, and you will find yourself going back to the same energy drainers expecting a different result...which you will never get.

Success is a journey where you are your driver. But without the right passengers along for the ride, it will be more difficult to get to your destination. With the right passengers, your ride will be filled with more joy, and you’ll reach your destination more quickly.

XOXO!
