How to Find the Right People, Not the Most People

LOOK FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE (1)

We’ve heard it time and time again – quality not quantity. And we believe it – we understand it – but we just don’t live it, especially online.

On social media, sometimes we get wrapped up in appearance. We want our pages to say:

  • People are following us;
  • People like us;
  • And that we’re popular.

So much that many of us have actually gone to the point of, gulp, dare I say it?BUYING likes! But where does that get you? Yes, it may make your page more visually attractive and quantity might make sense to some professions (like bloggers who rely on selling their audience members to brands). But we’re business owners who sell a product, and we aren’t looking for just fans – we’re looking for buyers.

Obviously we want to grow our online presence and we want to attract large amounts of members to our pages. But again, we want them to be the right people – people who are interested in our product, match our demographic and are likely to make a purchase, join the business or book a party.

Often times, in the pursuit for quantity, we sacrifice our worth and value – Meaning that we will compromise ourselves, our skills and our services to get as many people as possible. We might do things like:

  • Offer INSANE unnecessary discounts
  • Undersell ourselves and our skills
  • Purchase likes for our Facebook, Instagram and E-mail Lists
  • Compromise on rules and guidelines
  • And so on.

And do you know what this does? It makes us

  • Lose money
  • Lose credibility
  • And gain a bunch of people who will never actually buy from us.

Now that doesn’t mean you want to exclude anyone. Belinda always trains to offer the opportunity to everyone, because you just don’t know peoples’ circumstances. But STOP wasting your time looking for the MOST people – and look for the RIGHT ONES.

Here are some ways to find the RIGHT PEOPLE when marketing your business:

  • Use copy for your Facebook posts and ads that speaks to the people you are looking for
  • Always write from, ‘What do they want to hear” and not from “What do I want to say”
  • Look for like-minded people in Facebook groups, on Instagram accounts and on Pinterest boards.
  • Branch out from online and reach into your community. Attend community events and put yourself in places where people who are interested in your product might be (hair salons, nail salons, the gym, mom groups, yoga, and so on).
  • Share CONTENT and BENEFITS, not information. Post tutorials, tips, recipes and so on. This will automatically attract the right people to you.
  • Be authentic. The most important tip. Because if you are authentic, people will trust you and that will build likeability. Thus they are more likely to do business with you. Remember the best advice I ever got from Belinda is, people do business with people with want to be friends with.

So this week, search for the RIGHT PEOPLE! This goes along with our blog post on how to lose a prospect online (you can check it out here). Don’t just shoot into a barrel! Be strategic about who you develop relationships with.
